In an email to grassroots supporters on October 6, Campaign Manager Jim Messina announced the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised $181 million in the month of September.
Mr. Messina informed grassroots supporters that 1.8 million Americans had donated and the campaign surpassed 10 million donations in 2012. Also noted in his email was the number of new donors to the campaign. According to the campaign of the 1.8 million donations in September more than 567,000 were first time donors in 2012 and did not contribute in 2008. The average donation was $53, and 98 percent of the donations were $250 or less.
Septembers fundraising numbers are by far the highest seen this election cycle.
